Australia is leading by 192 runs with seven wickets in hand at tea on day one of the third test against Pakistan in Hobart.
Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke have scored half-centuries, with Captain Ponting at 85 runs while Clarke has notched up 61 runs.
Ponting should have been sent walking off the Tasmanian pitch for a fourth-ball duck after the skipper lofted a Mohammad Asif short ball to fine leg.
Teenager Mohammad Aamer fumbled the regulation catch, but was given a second chance to claim the prized wicket after the ball ricocheted off his right thigh. He fumbled that attempt also and the ball eventually hit the ground.
The blunder continues what has been a horrid fielding display throughout the series for the Pakistan team.
Earlier in the day, opener Simon Katich (11) was given out lbw after the visitors referred the decision, while Shane Watson looked certain to post another big score before being caught at gully on 29.
His dismissal followed a comical fielding error - albeit much more difficult than Aamer's chance - when Khurram Manzoor and Imran Farhat collided in the outfield as they attempted to catch Watson.
Sydney test hero Michael Hussey (6) edged a Umar Gul delivery to debutant wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed.
