Austal has unveiled its largest ever catamaran at 113 metres, which was towed out of its shipyard in Henderson today.
The catamaran is 20 metres longer than a standard soccer pitch and weighs around 1,000 tonnes.
It is the heaviest ship Austal has even built and will be able to hold up to 1,400 passengers and 357 cars.
When it is finished, the vessel will travel at speeds of up to 40 knots.
In a statement, Austal said that because the catamaran was so big, the upper deck, which has been constructed as a separate unit will be fitted to the vessel when it leaves the fabrication hall.
The "Super Unit" weighs in at over 170 tonnes which is more then the total aluminium weight of two 47.5m vessels also currently under construction.
Austal started joining the two parts together today.
The ship, which is bound for Denmark in mid-2011, will be utilised as a vehicle passenger ferry linking Denmark and Sweden.
