Art sales raise funds for cystic fibrosis

The Spring Rose Art Exhibition held recently at Deloitte’s new Brookfield office lobby raised more than $18,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Western Australia.

The foundation has run the exhibition for the past nine years, inviting artists from across the state to submit artworks for display and taking a 40 per cent commission on any piece sold.

Funds go toward the organisation’s research initiatives and provision of services to those suffering from cystic fibrosis in WA, which is the most common life threatening recessive gene condition in Australian children and currently has no cure.

More than 1 million Australians carry the cystic fibrosis gene and if both parents carry the gene there is a one-in-four chance that the child will suffer from the condition that primarily affects the lungs and pancreas.

Deloitte has been a major sponsor of the exhibition since 2011, and this year the works of more than 30 local artists were showcased on the ground floor of its offices.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring together support for culture and community in WA for our highly talented artists and one of our leading charities,” Deloitte partner Martin Langridge said.

The 2016 feature artist Di Taylor submitted seven pieces to the exhibition and donated 100 per cent of the proceeds from her piece Red Bathers to the foundation.

Capel Vale winery and Kott Gunning Lawyers were also major sponsors of the event.
