Turner heads new Veev office
Chris Turner is the founding director and chief executive officer of business consulting firm Veev Group, which has recently launched in Perth and has contracts in the oil and gas industry. Mr Turner was previously a program director at Bankwest and has had consulting engagements and roles with Chevron, Deloitte, Barclays Bank, Monadelphous and the WA government.
Hopkinson to International Petroleum
Chris Hopkinson has been appointed as chief executive officer and director of International Petroleum, an oil and gas exploration company with assets in Kazakhstan and Russia. He was previously senior vice-president of North Africa at BG Group.
UWA recruits van Onselen
Author, academic and political commentator Peter van Onselen has been appointed foundation professor in journalism at the University of Western Australia. Mr van Onselen was an associate professor in politics and government at Edith Cowan University before becoming contributing editor at The Australian and a presenter at Sky News.
Gray to lead East Africa Resources
Uranium miner East Africa Resources has appointed Mark Gray as chief executive officer from June 1. Mr Gray was previously corporate adviser to the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund and prior to that, managing director of Bounty Industries. He is a solicitor with experience in company restructurings, capitalisations, acquisitions and sales of businesses.
Muir, Ingram join Barminco
Perth-based contract miner Barminco has appointed two east coast directors, Jock Muir and John Ingram, as the company proceeds with a strategic review tipped to result in a stock market float or trade sale. Mr Muir is currently the chairman of NSL Consolidated and was previously at Dyno Nobel (bought by Incitec Pivot) for 15 years. Mr Ingram is currently chairman of Nick Scali, deputy chairman of the trustee board at AustralianSuper, and a director at UGL. He was previously managing director of Crane Group.
Norman back at Solco
Executive director Mark Norman has assumed leadership of solar supplier Solco’s emergent power and project division after returning from a period away due to illness. David Richardson remains as executive chairman and will continue managing the company on a day-to-day basis.
Rumley advises Indian Ocean Group
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has appointed Dennis Rumley as Australia’s representative on the Indian Ocean Rim Academic Group for an initial period of two years. Dr Rumley is currently a senior honorary research fellow and inaugural professor of Indian Ocean studies at the University of Western Australia.
Lauw joins IRDI Legal
Law firm IRDI Legal has appointed Inge Lauw as special counsel. Ms Lauw was formerly a senior associate with Lavan Legal. Accredited as a commercial tenancy law specialist, she has been involved in the leasing of major retail centres, landmark buildings and developments.
Ashcroft to Carrick Gold
Gold miner Carrick Gold has appointed Sean Ashcroft as project manager for the Lindsays, Kalpini and Kurnalpi project northeast of Kalgoorlie. Mr Ashcroft was previously the senior mine geologist for Norton Gold Fields, and chief geologist for A1 Minerals.
Kokorovic joins METS
Consulting group Mineral Engineering Technical Services has appointed Edin Kokorovic as METS engineering manager. Mr Kokorovic was previously senior mechanical engineer at Amec Minproc and area manager at Weir Minerals.
