MacKinnon, Edwards on council
Former state Liberal Party leader Barry MacKinnon has been appointed as inaugural chair of the state’s first Mental Health Advisory Council. Mr MacKinnon has previously served as chair of the Disability Services Commission, the WA Football Commission, the Fire and Emergency Services Authority and the Speech and Hearing Centre for Deaf Children. Former state Labor environment minister Judy Edwards has been appointed as deputy chair. Dr Edwards is the executive manager of the McCusker Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. Before entering parliament in 1990 Dr Edwards was a general practitioner.
Malcolm to chair Waste Authority
Current chair of the Contaminated Sites Committee Jim Malcolm has been appointed as chair of the Waste Authority. Mr Malcolm has extensive environmental experience as a former director of the Department of Environment and Conservation’s Waste Management Division.
Wyatt stays on frontbench
Ben Wyatt (pictured) will retain his position as opposition spokesman for federal state relations following his short-lived challenge for leadership of the state Labor Party. Ken Travers will take on the role of Treasury spokesman, formerly held by Mr Wyatt.
Barrett’s new Blakiston & Crabb role
Resources law firm Blakiston & Crabb has announced the promotion of Callista Barrett from lawyer to senior associate. Ms Barrett joined the firm in 2008 and is currently a member of the Western Australian Committee for the Australian Mining and Petroleum Law Association.
O’Brien to SIDS board
Rebecca O’Brien has been appointed to the board at SIDS and Kids WA, as board secretary, where she will consider and report on governance issues for the charity. Ms O’Brien has previously worked for international law firm Allens Arthur Robinson and has served as a member of the Council of the Law Society of WA.
Woods joins Recruitment Partners
Shanda Woods has been appointed as a medical recruitment specialist at Recruitment Partners. Ms Woods will be responsible for the sourcing and recruitment of medical and allied health professionals. She has extensive experience in sourcing professionals for hospitals, medical centres and general practices.
Huxley to WAFamers Federation
Sarah Huxley, who has previously worked as a research assistant at the University of Western Australia Business School and as a research assistant at WA Business News, has been appointed as marketing and communications officer at rural lobby group WAFarmers Federation.
Nancarrow to DLA Philips Fox
David Nancarrow has joined DLA Phillips Fox as a partner in finance and projects. Mr Nancarrow previously worked at the law firm’s international alliance partner DLA Piper where he led the construction and engineering team.
Hollett a director
Craig Hollett has been promoted to director at law firm Bowen Buchbinder Vilensky. Mr Hollett was previously a senior associate at the firm and practises in commercial litigation and client representations in courts and tribunals.
Wolff to Dwyer Durack
Dwyer Durack has appointed Greg Wolff as a solicitor to specialise in wills and estate planning. Mr Wolff previously worked as a director and in-house counsel for Willpower Legal, and has 22 years’ experience as a solicitor.
