Award for Constable
Nedlands-based Lions Eye Institute founding director, Ian Constable (pictured), has been awarded a gold medal by the Australian Institute of Company Directors for his outstanding achievements in the promotion of corporate governance in community based organisations. The institute is now the largest eye research facility in the Southern Hemisphere and attracts international referrals. Professor Constable joins a reputable list of AICD gold medal winners including Janet Holmes à Court, Kerry Stokes and Patricia Kailis.
Jackson's, Amusé take awards
Sommelier at Highgate-based fine-diner Jackson's, Kjell Ove Almeland, has been awarded the coveted Gourmet Traveller sommelier of the year award for 2010. Mr Almeland was acknowledged for developing Jackson's wine list to offer an extensive array of rare finds and aged wines. Gourmet Traveller also released its list of the top 100 Australian restaurants. East Perth-based Restaurant Amusé was the only Perth restaurant to be awarded with two stars for a superior dining experience. Six Perth and four regional restaurants were awarded one star for offering a dining experience with pizzazz.-
Jensen still a Liberal member
Federal Liberal member for Tangney, Dennis Jensen (pictured), will be able to contest the next election despite the local Liberal Party branches opposing his bid for pre-selection. The Liberal State Council supported Dr Jensen in his fight for pre-selection. Dr Jensen, with 76 council votes, was challenged by Libby Lyons, who won 28 votes, and Glenn Piggott, who won five.-
