King heads Pilbara vision
Ken King has been appointed as chief executive officer of the Pilbara Development Commission, which has responsibility for implementing the Pilbara Cities initiative to build modern, vibrant cities and regional centres. Dr King is a senior associate (resource sustainability) for the Eidos Institute, and his appointment completes the reorganisation of the commission with the recent appointment of a new board under chairman Mike Hollett.
Bornmann manages Esplanade
David Bornmann has been appointed as the new general manager of the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle. Mr Bornmann is moving back to Perth from Melbourne, where he held the role of area general manager for Rydges Hotels and Resorts. Rydges has taken over management of the Esplanade Hotel following the settlement of its purchase by Primewest, which was announced in October last year.
Pedersen head engineer
Engineers Australia has appointed Helen Pedersen as president of its WA division. Ms Pedersen works as a structural engineer with Sinclair Knight Merz in Perth, with a background in the iron ore and mining sector. Her priorities at the association will include lifting retention rates for women engineers, helping engineers cope better with stress, and promoting their technical skills and qualifications.
Rathbone Gadens head
WA law firm Gadens Lawyers has appointed Marc Rathbone as managing partner of its newly opened office in Singapore. Mr Rathbone is admitted in WA as a barrister and solicitor and is a leading partner in the energy and infrastructure practice. Singapore is the second Asia Pacific location for Gadens, which has been operating in PNG for more than 40 years.
Lo joins McDowall Affleck
Albert Lo has joined engineering firm McDowall Affleck in Midland as a senior civil engineer. Mr Lo previously worked with Wood & Grieve Engineers in Busselton and has worked with clients such as Satterley Property Group, On-Q Projects and Lester Group.
West to Amano Homes
South Perth boutique home builder Amano Homes has appointed Paula West as general manager. Ms West has 22 years of experience within the JWH Group (In-Vogue).
Truijens joins Curtin
The Curtin University-based Australasian Joint Research Centre for Building Information Modelling has appointed Martijn Truijens as an adjunct professor. Professor Truijens is currently lean construction technology adviser at Woodside focusing on the introduction of new technologies, and has previously worked for Fluor, Bechtel and Santos. Earlier last year, the Centre completed Project ECHO, which successfully trialled innovative technologies, in collaboration with Woodside.
HHG expands team
WA law firm HHG Legal Group has appointed Janet Morgan as a solicitor in family law, Kate House as a solicitor in native title & crime, Giuseppe Graneri as a solicitor in commercial & property, and Timothy Colcutt, Luke Davies and Colin Thorpe as solicitors in commercial litigation.
New Diabetes WA hires
Julie Owen as been appointed as the Aboriginal health manager at Diabetes WA, based in Subiaco. Dr Owen previously worked within Aboriginal health organisations across four states, and was most recently based in Albany. Stacey Boyne as been appointed as media and public relations manager. Ms Boyne was previously part of the marketing and public relations team at St John of God Subiaco Hospital. Jo Rollinson, who has previously held marketing roles at the Australian Institute of Management WA, Greening Australia WA and the Australian Stock Exchange, has been appointed as marketing coordinator.
