Applications called for tech funding

APPLICATIONS are being called for $171 million of new funding from the Federal Government’s Networking the Nation program.

The program has already proved successful and now four new parts have been added to it.

In WA, $10 million is available to promote ongoing, self-sustaining improvements in the service, quality and price of regional telecommunication services

Another $6 million is available to help regional WA local government authorities provide online access to their own services and public points of access to advanced telecommunications services such as the Internet

Funding of $36 million is available for development of Internet access in regional Australia (at least equivalent to untimed local call rates) and $20 million has been set aside to meet the telecommunications needs of isolated island communities.

Applications for funding close on 8 March. Information kits and guidelines can be obtained at http://www.dcita.gov.au/rtif.html or by phoning 1800 674 058.
