Perth-based Anzoil NL has spudded its second well in a three-well programme in the Hanoi Basin in North Vietnam.
Well No D24-1x is classified an exploration well and, if successful, may indicate a significant extension of the nearby D14 gas field. It is targeting Oligocene sands at 3640 metres.
Meanwhile, the company’s subsidiary Anzoil (Asia) Pte Ltd has announced that PetroVietnam and the Ministry of Planning & Investment have formally granted a further one year extension of the Hanoi Basin permit until 21 July 2000.
The extension allows for completion and testing of the current drilling campaign and provides the joint venture sufficient time to prove the viability of the Hanoi Basin gas accumulation.
