Subiaco-based search engine and online media company Ansearch Ltd has acquired Anzwers.com.au from listed technology group iiNET Limited for $250,000.
The company believes the acquisition of Anzwers is an important step in its strategy to grow its overall reach into the search and directory market.
Ansearch CEO Dean Jones said: "In 2005 revenue through online advertising in Australia was in excess of $650 million according to ABVS Online Advertising Expenditure Report, 2005. This is an increase of 60 per cent on 2004. By focusing on growth through distribution, organic development and synergistic corporate and business acquisitions, like the Anzwers acquisition, we aim to secure a major slice of that revenue pie."
Anzwers is one of Australia's longest established search engine brands, originating at Ozemail in 1996 before being acquired by iiNet in 2005. Ansearch said its sustained popularity over the past 10 years is due in part to the almost 18,000 websites that provide an Anzwers search box, text link or referral back to the Anzwers.com.au site.
"Importantly for shareholders, the Ansearch Group's increased search capacity is expected to drive an instant increase in overall revenue" said Mr. Jones.
"With Anzwers loyal audience and substantial monthly search volumes, the revenue contribution will be immediate with profitability expected within 3 months of the acquisition."
Ansearch's share price at 1130 WST was up 2.56 per cent to 8 cents.
