IBT Education Ltd has announced that Simon Fraser University has approved the establishment of Fraser International College, a decision that was reportedly delayed because of IBT’s perceived link to the AWB scandal. Some concerns were expressed within the university about IBT’s connection to the AWB Ltd scandal through its chairman Trevor Flugge, a former AWB director and key figure in the current Cole inquiry. The connection reportedly gave ammunition to opponents of IBT’s proposal. As well as taking leave from IBT’s board, Mr Flugge is also taking leave from the boards of Wesfarmers Ltd, Automotive Holdings Group Ltd and the farmer-owned company Australian Wool Services, which owns The Woolmark Company. Fraser International College will be located at the University’s Burnaby Mountain campus just outside Vancouver, Canada. A recognition and educational services agreement, which will set out the co-operative arrangement under which Fraser International College will be run, is expected to be executed soon.
