The Australian Institute of Management Western Australia has recruited one of the top staff at Murdoch University as its new chief executive.
Professor Gary Martin will succeed Patrick Cullen as CEO and executive director of the Institute, with effect from 30 January 2012.
Professor Martin has over 20 years of experience in education and management, and is currently senior deputy vice chancellor at Murdoch University where he has responsibility for a number of academic and service divisions.
He was also vice chancellor for an interim period, between the retirement of John Yovich in March and the commencement of new vice chancellor Richard Higgott in August.
“After an extensive national search, I am delighted to welcome Gary Martin as the Institute's new CEO,” the Institute’s Chairman Keith Spence said in a statement.
“Gary has a strong teaching, consulting and leadership background and has excelled at Murdoch University where he made a significant and positive impact over a number or years.”
“I would like to acknowledge and thank Patrick for his contribution over his 16 years of excellent leadership of the Institute. He leaves the Institute in great shape.”
The Floreat-based AIM announced in June that Mr Cullen would be stepping down at the end of the year, after 16 years as executive director.
Mr Spence said the Institute is the market leader in the learning and development industry.
“It is positioned extremely well to continue to play a key role in the ongoing development of management and leadership skills in the Australasian region. We are well set up with our people and capacity, our financial strength and our infrastructure.
“We are particularly pleased to have attracted Gary to the CEO position at this point in the development of the Institute.
“He brings a wealth of experience to AIM WA in the learning and development arena and coupled with his leadership skills and passion for people development, he will drive the Institute's continued growth for the future.”
