THE Perth office of technical services consultancy AECOM, located in the General Post Office building in the CBD, has been ranked as one of the nation’s most energy efficient workplaces.
The office sources 25 per cent of its power from renewable energy and uses a range of sustainability solutions, including automated lighting controls, energy efficient appliances and high-efficiency air-conditioning. The National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) gave the office its highest possible five-star rating for excellence in energy efficiency. AECOM building engineering associate director Graham Ager said the rating was an important achievement considering the office’s location in the century-old GPO building.
“After a major refit in 2008 to boost sustainability, our office now significantly exceeds the requirements for a NABERS five-star rating, making it one of Australia’s most energy efficient tenancies and a best-practice example of energy use in heritage-listed buildings,” Mr Agar said.
The NABERS rating comes after the office became the first in Western Australia to receive a five-star green star rating for its interior from the Green Building Council of Australia last year.
