9Marys makes licence pitch
THE proprietor of 9Marys Restaurant, located opposite QV1 in the CBD, has lodged a tavern application with the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor.
The restaurant’s owner, Murray Kimber, also operates Chutney Mary’s Restaurant in Subiaco.
Mr Kimber has been trying to secure town-planning approval to convert the restaurant into the Centro Wine and Coffee House for the past two years.
Mr Kimber said plans for 9Marys did not involve modifications to its current operation, other than allowing patrons to have the option to have a drink with or without ordering a meal.
“This [the tavern application] will provide us with flexibility,” he said.
“It’s so people who work in town and people that live nearby can meet for a drink,” he said.
Mr Kimber said 9Marys Restaurant, which opened in April this year, would maintain its Indian restaurant focus.
His application for a change of use from a restaurant (Chutney Mary’s) to a tavern is currently before the City of Subiaco.
Mr Kimber said securing City of Perth planning approval for 9Marys was made easier because there was no requirement to provide parking bays.
He said the City of Subiaco application had been revised several times in order to adhere to the city’s planning guidelines, and in particular to meet parking requirements.
