The state government says the Perth Convention Bureau has delivered a $93 million business events boost to the state's economy.
The bureau's annual 2009-10 annual sales results exceeded its annual target by more than 14 per cent.
"This is an outstanding performance when you take into account the very strong Australian dollar and uncertainty caused by global economic circumstances and provides an excellent return on the State Government's increased investment in marketing to secure business events," said Tourism Minister Liz Constable.
"The business events sector, which embraces conventions, exhibitions and incentive travel groups, represents an important part of the tourism industry and we will continue to help maximise WA's opportunities," she said.
She said the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre has been a key factor in underpinning Perth as a convention destination.
The bureau's managing director, Christine McLean, said the PCB had secured a total of 134 conventions and incentive travel groups in 2009-10, representing an estimated 50,624 delegates and more than $93 million delegate spend over the next three years.
Ms McLean said the estimated delegate spend represented a 39.6 per cent jump of
$26.4 million on the previous year's sales result of $66.6 million.
