As business manager of the Salinity Cooperative Research Centre, Mark Stickells has been deeply involved in the development of profitable farming options aimed at combating salinity.

His efforts are to be marked by over 40 research projects soon to reach the market. Some of the highlights of his involvement in ground-breaking research include breeding salt-tolerant wheat and increasing acid tolerance in the lucerne plant.

Aside from his research efforts, Mr Stickells also has an extensive track record in communication systems, managing business and innovation.

One of his most significant innovative achievements to date has been the development of myCRC – a web-based project management and communications system – the efficacy of which has been proven through three other eastern states CRC’s subsequently adopting the system.

His current extracurricular involvements are impressive with his involvement in four distinguished professional associations including the Australian Institute of Management. Throughout his career Mr Stickells has taken on 13 notable committee roles for institutions such as the University of Western Australia and the Association for Tertiary Education Management.

Since 2001 he has been a mentor in the UWA Leadership Development for Women Program. He has also delivered presentations and workshops on career strategies for graduating tertiary students, and to Year 12 students applying to study at WA universities.
