In his role as economic development manager, Ian Martinus is responsible for developing new business initiatives, maximising investment attraction, and building strategic alliances for the City of Wanneroo.

Mr Martinus’ most significant business achievement to date has been the development and implementation of the City of Wanneroo ‘Open for Business 2020’ economic development strategy, which addressed the short- and medium-term economic development outcomes of the city. He presented the strategy to senior government and ministerial advisers at the Australian Government Online Conference in Canberra.

Mr Martinus also developed and implemented a strategy for AusAID that involved applying for multi-million dollar funding from the World Bank and other agencies to promote local job creation in Africa. During his time in Africa he was mentored by Supreme Court Judge Professor Johan Kruger, who was part of the team that wrote post-apartheid constitution for South Africa.

Closer to home, Mr Martinus is proud to have built up a team of dedicated employees within the City of Wanneroo and strengthened partnerships across all levels of public and private interaction. He also developed and coordinated numerous forums and workshops within the city, including the Youth Careers Expo and the Wanneroo Home-Based Business Expo. Mr Martinus has held a range business and management roles in California, Indonesia and Japan. He holds a doctor of business administration, majoring in information systems, an MBA, and speaks Japanese, Indonesian and Malay.
