EDITH Cowan University’s Small and Medium Enterprise Research Centre has been awarded $310,000 by the federal government to fund a succession planning training project. ECU says its ‘effective business exits’ project will deliver skills training to small business operators, particularly family and farm businesses in three metropolitan and seven country areas. Through AusIndustry, the federal funding is part a national program understood to cost $8 million. “Succession planning is a critical issue for small businesses and it’s really important that business owners are informed about the options,” SMERC associate professor Beth Walker said. The EBE project is expected to have 420 participants in Perth and regional centres.
