UP to $2 million in state government funding will be made available to assist with regional industrial and commercial projects in the provision of essential services such as water, electricity, telecommunications, gas, drainage and sewerage. Local Government and Regional Development Minister Jon Ford last week called for applications under the Regional Headworks Program for grants of between $5,000 and $200,000. The RHP aims to stimulate economic growth and sustainable development in regional Western Australian communities by attracting investment and increasing job opportunities through support for new industrial or commercial activity and the expansion of existing regional businesses. Individual businesses, business groups, local government, community and not-for-profit organisations have been encouraged to apply. Projects that may be considered for funding include those involving industry and tourism development, the expansion of existing commercial and industrial enterprises, seniors and community care accommodation and the development of certain types of community facilities such as arts and sports centres. Completed applications must be received by close of business on Wednesday June 7.
