Wayne Phillips
Having graduated from the University of Rhodesia with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Wayne Phillips migrated to Brazil in 1977 and has since become a Brazilian national and a fluent speaker of Portuguese. Mr Phillips specialises in providing innovative practical solutions to complex metallurgy, with particular expertise in flotation and hydrometallurgy including copper oxide leaching and SX-EW. He Phillips spent several years working with major engineering companies including SNC Lavalin, Kvaerner and Minproc as client representative for a number of major mining projects. Mr Phillips was technical director of Kinross South America and oversaw Kinross’ technical services activities in Brazil and Chile, and was responsible for exploration, project development and assistance to operations in compliance and environmental regulatory issues. Mr Phillips was involved in the $470 million expansion of the world class Rio Paracatu gold mine and process plant in Brazil for which capacity was increased from 20 to 60 million tpa. He has over 30 years of metallurgical experience and is the founding director of Avanco Resources. Mr Phillips was also Avanco's executive director and head of projects prior to being appointed general manager of the newly created technical services division in March 2018.
