Simon Farrell has over 40 years of experience within the finance and mining industries.
His mining career commenced in 1976 with Bougainville Copper as a financial analyst, where he was ultimately responsible for the financial studies that formed the basis for the renegotiation of the Bougainville Copper Limited (BCL) Agreement with the Government of Papua New Guinea. After four years at BCL, he was sponsored to study at Wharton School where he completed his MBA. He returned to the Rio Tinto group with Hamersley Iron as marketing manager, before joining the Bond Group. Mr Farrell then became a consultant and acquired a significant stake in what became Consolidated Minerals where as chief executive, he explored, discovered and developed two manganese mines in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Mr Farrell was also a consultant to the Minproc Engineering group before becoming chief executive of what became Coal of Africa, departing in 2017 as deputy chair.
Mr Farrell holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia, and a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
