Ruth Ganss is the scientific head of cancer division at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, and holds a professorial appointment at the University of Western Australia. Her own research group at the Perkins has a strong focus on cancer, the tumour microenvironment and immunotherapy.
Prof Ganss obtained her PhD at the University of Heidelberg in 1994 and, for over 20 years, has conducted internationally competitive cancer research in Germany, US and Australia.
From 2008-2012, Prof Ganss was the inaugural Cancer Council WA Research Fellow, served for 10 years on the Cancer Council WA Research Committee, and received the inaugural Cancer Council WA Cancer Researcher of the Year Award in 2014. She has also held leadership positions in national and international research committees.
Prof Ganss is a Member of the Senior Faculty at the Harry Perkins Institute which provides strategic advice to the director and board, and is also a board member of the Cancer Research Trust in WA.
