Richard Gillingwater retired as chair of European investment banking at Credit Suisse First Boston in 2003. Previously, he held a variety of executive roles including head of corporate finance at Barclays de Zoete Wedd.
Mr Gillingwater started his career in investment banking in 1980 at Kleinwort Benson, where he spent ten years. In 2003, Mr. Gillingwater was asked by the UK government to found and become the chief executive, and later chair, of the Shareholder Executive (an arm of the UK government responsible for managing the government's financial interest in a range of state-owned businesses for commercial rather than political interests).
He was also Dean of Cass Business School from 2007 to 2012.
