Rebecca O'Brien
Rebecca O'Brien specialises in commercial dispute resolution and litigation particularly in the resources, banking and finance sectors. She also has experience in corporate insolvency and insurance litigation. Ms O'Brien takes a creative and strategic approach to the conduct of litigation and has extensive experience managing both large and complex multi-jurisdictional disputes and 'business as usual' litigation. She is an enthusiastic proponent of legal technology solutions and lower cost review options and has 'on-the-ground' experience implementing them. Ms O'Brien has been acting for the CITIC Group of companies in its high-profile disputes with Clive Palmer and Mineralogy concerning the multi-billion dollar Sino Iron project in the Pilbara region of WA. She represented CITIC in various disputes in the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Western Australia concerning calculation of royalties, the Port of Cape Preston and critical environmental approvals and licences. Ms O'Brien has been trained formally in legal project management and attended a full-day LPM workshop delivered by US legal project management expert Susan Raridon Lambreth.
