Philip Lowe
Dr Philip Lowe was appointed deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia in February 2012, and became governor from September 2016 to September 2023. Dr Lowe was also deputy chair of the Reserve Bank Board, and chair of the Reserve Bank's risk management committee. He started working at the bank in 1980, straight out of high school at the age of 18.

Prior to joining the Reserve Bank of Australia, Dr Lowe was the assistant governor (Economic) and assistant governor (Financial System). He also spent two years with the Bank for International Settlements working on financial stability issues.

Dr Lowe has authored numerous papers, including on the linkages between monetary policy and financial stability.

He holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honours, and the University Medal ) in Economics/Econometrics from the University of New South Wales.
