Associate Professor Peter Moore OAM was born in the UK and received his formal musical education at Trinity College of Music London. He emigrated to Western Australia in 1984 and held his first position as lecturer in music, based in Kalgoorlie, at an outreach program offered by then West Australian College of Advanced Education. In 1986, he was appointed 2nd Bassoon/Contra Bassoon with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) and in 1987, he moved to the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts as lecturer in Bassoon and member of the wind quintet Emsemble Vasse. Assoc Prof Moore, having received a Scottish Arts Council award, began a conducting career in 1980. In 1988, he was appointed conductor and musical director for the West Australian Youth Music Association (WAYMA). In 1991, he became a lecturer and subsequently a senior lecturer at the University of Western Australia which includes being the conductor of the University Orchestra. Assoc Prof Moore conducts and presents concerts both educationally and artistically. He has been involved in many commercial recording projects including music for the ABC, UWA, The Australian Chamber Orchestra, The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and The Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Assoc Prof Moore was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for Music Education and the Australian Centenary Medal.
