Marie Wong is an intellectual property lawyer and registered trademarks attorney, and heads up the trademarks section of Wrays Lawyers. Ms Wong advises clients on their intellectual property and brand protection strategies, and assists them with trademark filing strategies, prosecution and enforcement, as well as with a broader range of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters including copyright, designs, protection of confidential information, domain name disputes, passing off and consumer law, advertising and product labelling reviews, and product recalls. She also regularly assists with the drafting and review of commercial documents related to the transfer, protection and commercialisation of IP, such as IP assignment, licence and distribution agreements, as well as in the preparation of website terms and conditions and privacy policies. Ms Wong acts for, and represents, a diverse range of local and international clients on intellectual property related matters including through involvement in proceedings before the Australian Trademarks Office, World Intellectual Property Organisation (alternative dispute resolution for domain name disputes), the Federal Court of Australia and State Supreme Courts. Ms Wong’s clients include individuals, SME’s and multinational corporations across the pharmaceutical, wine and dairy, fashion and clothing, music, cosmetics, property and construction industries. She has additional in-house experience having worked on secondment at a multinational pharmaceutical company providing legal advice and support in a range of areas, including in relation to intellectual property and consumer law issues. Ms Wong is a committee member of the Wrays Pro Bono program, and has assisted a number of creative industry and charitable not-for-profit organisations with their intellectual property issues. She is also the author of the Australian contribution to Getting The Deal Through – Trademarks 2014 and Trademarks 2015 (first published in October 2013) which is part of a compendium of law and regulation in 58 practice areas and over 150 jurisdictions containing concise explanations to the most important legal and regulatory matters that arise in business deals and disputes worldwide.
