Sir John Key GNZM AC was New Zealand’s 38th Prime Minister serving from 2008 until 2016. After retiring from a distinguished career in politics, he was appointed chair of ANZ’s New Zealand subsidiary in January after joining the board in October 2017.
Sir John had a long international banking career in international finance primarily with Bankers Trust in New Zealand and Merrill Lynch in Singapore, London and Sydney. At Merrill Lynch, he was head of global foreign exchange and a member of the Foreign Exchange Committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Sir John was made a Knight Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours. He also received Australia’s highest honour, becoming a Companion of the Order of Australia for advancing the Australia-New Zealand bilateral relationship.
