A WA farmer, John Foss found out about the health benefits of chia seeds while conducting research funded by a Nuffield Farming Scholarship. In 2003 he founded The Chia Company, a US-based business which grows chia in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It is the world's biggest producer of chia, the richest combined plant based source of Omega 3, fibre, protein and antioxidants. Chia is sold as a health food product and also to food manufacturers to enhance the nutrition of their products.
