John Cowling has a 40-year corporate career that has seen him work in Australia, US, UK and Asia. Originally trained as a chartered accountant, Mr Cowling progressed into senior management roles including as chief executive of public & private companies, NSW government transport corporations, and internet companies in Australia and overseas.
His experience transcends most industries including IT, retail, service-based businesses, large infrastructure, shipping, and food manufacturing in Australia and overseas.
Mr Cowling spent almost 20 years in strategic planning, restructuring & turnaround strategies, and change management to improve business performance. He is also an experienced director of listed companies and large private enterprises.
He is the chief executive of the Australian Shareholders' Association, which he joined in November 2019.
Mr Cowling is a past member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board and the advisory committee of Australian Institute of Company Directors on accounting issues.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Australian Institute of Company Directors and FINSIA.
