Jeff McKenzie joined BBX Minerals in 2012 as acting chief executive and was chief executive from March 2015 to October 2019 but remains on the board as an executive director. He retired from the board in September 2020 due to logistical difficulties and travel restrictions between Perth and Brazil due to COVID-19.
Mr McKenzie was a former banker with ANZ Banking Group for 33 years including roles in New Zealand, Indonesia and China; as general manager of Beijing Branch and regional head of North Asia Commodity and International Trade. He was also chief executive of PISG Group Beijing, the largest private iron ore importer into China, and owner of a 4mio ton steel mill where he initiated a USD2.5bio bid for Hong Kong-listed China Oriental Group.
Mr McKenzie has considerable commodity and financial experience in South America, including undertaking a JV with Vale to build a 5mio ton pellet plant in China. He also negotiated long term supply contracts with Vale and CMP (Chile).
