Dr Ian Harrison is a research scientist with over 30 years of experience managing R&D programs and projects. Until his retirement in 2017, Dr Harrison was director of R&D for Alcoa’s global refining system, leading a team of about 60 scientists and technicians and providing R&D for the world’s largest alumina refining system. Prior to joining Alcoa, he was a research leader with CSIRO and with Eastman Kodak. Dr Harrison held leadership positions with a range of industry and academic committees including a board role with the Parker Centre for Hydrometallurgy, and an Adjunct Professorship with RMIT University. He was also a board member and chair of several industry advisory panels, chair of the Alumina Technical Panel and AQW which are collaborative alumina industry groups. Dr Harrison has a PhD in Photoelectrochemistry and an Honours Degree in Soil Chemistry and Chemistry. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious RK Murphy award for his contribution to industrial chemistry in Australia.
