Hazel Brewer has over 30 years of experience in shipping, offshore, international trade and marine insurance.
Her offshore practice includes contract advisory work and handling contentious matters arising under contracts for rigs, drilling units, accommodation vessels, and other offshore support and services contracts including barge, anchor handling, seismic, geotechnical and heavy-lift project cargo vessels. Ms Brewer was involved in the resolution of numerous rig contract negotiations and disputes, LNG carriage issues, and marine related issues.
Ms Brewer advised on regulatory issues (AMSA and NOPSEMA) and on pollution incidents and environmental issues in WA, including advising in relation to the potential application of specific environmental legislation to FLNG developments. She also advises on a broad range of issues arising under charter parties, contracts of affreightment, transhipment contracts, bills of lading and on carriage issues relating to LNG, petroleum products, iron ore, concentrates and other export commodities. She advised clients in dispute resolution, litigation and domestic and international arbitrations including ICC, LMAA and SIAC.
Ms Brewer began her legal career in shipping and commodities at Middleton Potts in London. She then joined HFW in Dubai before transferring to its Australian office in 2007. In September 2021, Ms Brewer left HFW and became a partner of Squire Patton Boggs Perth's commodities and shipping industry group which launched in November 2019.
