Erin Coates is a Perth-based curator, creative producer and artist. In her curatorial roles, she has undertaken both institutional and independent projects including staging a number of exhibitions outside of conventional gallery spaces.

Ms Coates is a special projects coordinator at Fremantle Arts Centre where she co-curated We Don’t Need A Map: a Martu Experience of the Western Desert in 2012, which went on to tour nationally from 2014 to 2016. Other curatorial projects include Light Geist at Fremantle Arts Centre in 2016; The Cars That Ate Perth, Spectrum Project Space, 2013; and Rumblestrip, a night-one exhibition in an abandoned car park in Perth in 2016.

Her creative practice is defined by a cross-disciplinary approach and she often collaborates with specialists from other fields including engineers, architects, sound artists, scuba divers and parkour traceurs.

Her work spans video, installation and drawing and was included in the major survey exhibition The National: New Australian Art, held across the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW), Carriageworks and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) in 2017.

Ms Coates is the recipient of several awards and commissions including the Catalyst: Katherine Hannah Visual Arts Commission in 2014, which resulted in the solo exhibition Kinesphere at Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and the publishing of an artist monograph.
