David Murray AO has extensive experience in the finance and banking sectors, and considerable knowledge of the financial markets.
He has strong corporate governance credentials having guided the Commonwealth Bank of Australia through a number of major changes, including privatisation in 1996. Mr Murray joined the Commonwealth Bank in 1966 and started his career as a teller in its Sydney branch. He was appointed chief executive in June 1992 and retired from the role in 2005.
In 2007, Mr Murray was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for services to the finance sector nationally and internationally through strategic leadership and policy development, to education, particularly fostering relations between educational institutions and business and industry, and to the community as a supporter of and fundraiser for cultural and church organisations.
