Cameron Dickie's father, Gary Dickie, founded Dickies Tree Service in the early 1980s after moving to Perth from country Victoria.
Cameron Dickie began working as a groundsman during school holidays from Year 10, and after completing Year 12 at St Stephens Duncraig, joined the company full-time. Over the following years, he earned his qualifications in chainsaw operation, elevated work platform (EWP) operation, Western Power line clearance and tree felling, progressing from groundsperson to EWP cutter to crew leader. By age 21, he was running his own crew of three to five people.
In his early twenties, Mr Dickie made the decision to leave the family business and join Active Trees, a major national vegetation management company, with the goal of developing the operational and management skills he would eventually bring back to Dickies. He returned to Dickies in his late twenties as operations manager. In 2021, he completed a 12-month Business Owners Growth Program (formerly affiliated with Curtin University) to further strengthen his commercial and strategic capabilities.
