He was the president of the Liberal National Party of Queensland, a foundation director of the Australian Trucking Association, and chair of Asia Pacific Shipping Enterprises. In 2019, Mr McIver was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to politics, and to the road transport industry.
