Professor Brad Yu holds a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours) in Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and a PhD in Engineering from the Australian National University (ANU). He joined the faculty at ANU on an ARC Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship and then Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship, and became leader of the Networked Systems Research Group. Prof Yu directed the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Center at the Westlake University in Hangzhou, China. His research has been supported by more than $10 million industry and overseas funding. Prof Yu was a recipient of an Australian Government’s Endeavour Asia Award, multiple Australian Academy of Science and Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering visiting fellowships and grants, and a finalist of the Eureka Prize for Outstanding Science in Safeguarding Australia. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a Fellow of Engineers Australia. In May 2019, Prof Yu was presented the prestigious John Booker Medal in Engineering Science by the Australian Academy of Science in Canberra. He was subsequently appointed the Optus Chair in Artificial Intelligence at Curtin University, where he will lead the Optus-Curtin Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence.
