Ben was one of Western Australia’s finest footballers who enjoyed great success initially in the WAFL before progressing to the AFL with Hawthorn and then Fremantle. Drafted by Hawthorn in 1989 he won Hawthorn’s best and fairest in 1991 and was a key member of the Hawks’ premiership winning team that same year. A two-time All Australian in 1993 and 1994, he returned home to WA in 1995 to captain the inaugural Fremantle Dockers side. He went on to play 47 games for Fremantle and a total of 145 AFL games. Ben has completed Bachelor of Business (Major in Accounting) and an Executive Certificate in Wine Studies. Following his retirement Ben has worked extensively in the WA media as a football specialist and has established a successful career in the wine industry. He is Sales and Distribution Manager for the Allan family's Rosily Vineyards winery and is involved in the distribution business through Dave Mullen Wine Agency.
