Anne Banks-McAllister AM is the general manager of the community development alliance at the City of Perth. She started her career as a cadet at the State Library of WA and after graduating as a librarian, she progressed from the first Children’s Librarian at the City of Subiaco to become chief executive at the Shire of Peppermint Grove. In between, she managed public library services and was the director of community development at the City of Nedlands and the City of Melville. Ms Banks-McAllister's government experience included being general manager of strategy at the Pilbara Development Commission and at the WA Local Government Association where she was responsible for capacity building across regional local government in WA. Ms Banks-McAllister holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, a Master of Business Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Organisational Coaching. Her contribution to local government was recognised by Local Government Professionals (WA) with a Meritorious Award and being conferred a Fellow. An experienced non-executive director, she is a graduate and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a past member of the Australian National Committee for UN Women, inaugural Convenor of the WA Women’s Hall of Fame, chair of Women’s Health & Family Services, and vice chair of the State Library Board of WA. Ms Banks-McAllister was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her contribution to gender equality, particularly in local government.
