Past NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione AO APM has extensive experience in law enforcement. His career began with the Australian Customs Service. In 1980 he joined the NSW Police Force and following experience in general and traffic duties, he worked as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and was seconded to the National Crime Authority in 1985. In 1992, Mr Scipione was appointed to the rank of Detective Inspector at the Joint Technical Services Group and in 1995, was again promoted to Detective Superintendent (Commander) at the Special Technical Investigation Branch. During this period, he was also a Senior NSW Police Counter Terrorist Advisor to the Standing Advisory Committee for Commonwealth/State Cooperation for Protection Against Violence. Since then, Mr Scipione has held a range of positions including as Deputy Commissioner in 2000 and Commissioner of Police in 2007. He retired in 2017. Mr Scipione is a recipient of the Australian Police Medal and the National Medal. He holds a Masters Degree in Management and Graduate Diploma in Police Management from Macquarie University and a Graduate Certificate in Security Management from Edith Cowan University. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a Graduate of the FBI National Executive Institute.ndrew Scipione has been awarded a Doctor of Letters (Honorary), Macquarie University, Sydney NSW and holds the role of Adjunct Professor with the University of Western Sydney’s School of Social Sciences and Psychology.
