Viterra began as a Canadian grain handling business with its historic roots in grain-handling cooperatives.
In 2009, Viterra bought South Australia-based ABB Grain. In 2012, global commodity trader Glencore acquired Viterra and changed its name to Glencore Agriculture. In 2020, Glencore Agriculture rebranded to Viterra.
Viterra is one of the largest buyers of Australian commodities nationally. It originates, stores, handles, transports and markets a range of agriculture commodities including grains, oilseeds, pulses and cotton.
In Western Australia, Viterra handles about 15% of its annual grain exports.
