Oakajee Port and Rail was created to develop a greenfields infrastructure and supply chain business to transport iron ore from Western Australia’s mid-west to customers across the globe.
A deepwater port, proposed for a site at Oakajee 24 km north of Geraldton, was planned to cater for the world’s largest ore carriers and the 570km rail network will service operating and emerging mining projects across the region.
Originally a joint venture between Murchison Metals and Mitsubishi Corporation, OPR is now fully controlled by Mitsubishi, one of the largest trading and investment companies in Japan.
