The Gilmac Pty Ltd fodder export business started in 1987 when Peter Mackie established an export hay pressing plant at his New Norcia farm, 140km north of Perth in Western Australia. The company has maintained aggressive plant building and supplier development programs to keep pace with growing export market demand. Its second pressing plant was opened at Balaklava, South Australia, in 1993. Third and fourth plants were opened at York in Western Australia in 1998, and at Goornong in Victoria in 2001.
