Farmers Across Borders was established as a charity in 2019, however, its backers have been organising delivery of fodder to farmers and pastoralists facing food shortages for their livestock since 2014.
The charity is based in Salmon Gums and largely draws its hay and straw donations from broadacre family farming operations in the Esperance zone. It has a storage warehouse capable of holding up to 5,000 bales of fodder crops near Salmon Gums.
Truck drivers, hay balers and other supporters volunteer their time, with the charity assisting with fuel costs for those who help out.
Hay runs mostly take place in Western Australia, but have ventured as far as South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales in collaboration with similar organisations in those states.
