China National Offshore Oil Corporation, or CNOOC Group is a major national oil company. It is the third-largest national oil company in the People's Republic of China. The CNOOC Group focuses on the exploitation, exploration and development of crude oil and natural gas in offshore China. The company is owned by the government of the People's Republic of China, and the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) assumes shareholder rights and obligations on the government's behalf. One subsidiary, CNOOC Limited, is listed on the Hong Kong exchange; the other China Oilfield Services, is listed on the Hong Kong and New York exchanges.
In WA CNOOC has: (a) CNOOC NWS Private Ltd is responsible for the daily management of its interest in Australia’s North West Shelf (NWS) Project and other E&P businesses in Australia; (b) China Oilfield Services (Australia) Ltd established in 2006 in Perth to provide drilling, logging, and seismic acquisition services; and (c) China Offshore Oil Engineering Corporation (COOEC) Australia Pty Ltd, founded in December 2013 to provides engineering services to the Gorgon LNG Project operated by Chevron. Currently COOEC Australia is also providing services to the Ichthys LNG Project operated by INPEX.
