Surefire Resources is growing in confidence that a large gold mineralised system is emerging at its wholly-owned Yidby Gold project, after finding sulphide-rich quartz porphyry in all 25 of its most recent RC drillholes.
Visible gold was also seen in several locations at the project, 350km north-east of Perth in the Yalgoo-Singleton greenstone belt which hosts the nearby 2.75-million-ounce Mt Gibson gold deposit to the south and the Golden Grove gold-base metals mine to the north. Samples from all holes are now being analysed.
Surefire’s campaign completed 3381m of RC drilling in the 25 holes. Previous work at Yidby shows the gold mineralisation is hosted in the quartz porphyry intrusive rocks which were intersected in all of the current program’s holes. The company reported extensive sulphides and visible gold in several places, boosting the company’s optimism for positive assays.
Drilling at Yidby was aimed at providing extensions to the existing gold mineralised intercepts and testing structural targets derived from the company’s magnetic and gravity data. The deepest hole in the current program was 288m.
Surefire Resources managing director Paul Burton said: “This was a very successful drilling program with the gold hosting quartz-porphyry intersected in all holes indicating this to be an extensive gold mineralised system. We look forward to reporting the results of this program, and the leach test work underway”.
The project covers 114 square kilometres of the southern portion of the gold-producing Yalgoo-Singleton greenstone belt and was acquired in 2020. Surefire has been using geochemistry and geophysics to systematically explore the tenements and define drill targets, leading to the discovery of the Yidby gold system beneath transported cover.
The Yidby Gold mineralised system has been intersected over a 3km north-west-trending strike length, with gold intercepts at Surefire’s Yidby, Fender and Marshall prospects. Mineralisation is at shallow depths with grades up to 39 grams per tonne gold being previously reported.
Surefire says the gold mineralised system is quartz porphyry-hosted within an assemblage of mafic and ultramafic rocks above a larger porphyry intrusive. The company says this is similar to the sequence seen at Mt Gibson, 30km to the south.
It is early days, but this emerging gold system could get Surefire even more attention when assays come back from the laboratory.
