St George storms into All Ords on Brazilian rare earths boom

St George Mining has scored a visibility boost after clinching a spot in the much-coveted S&P/ASX All Ordinaries (All Ords) Index, effective prior to the open of trade on Monday, March 23.

The All Ords tracks the top 500 companies on the Australian Securities Exchange by market capitalisation, so inclusion can help broaden a stock’s investor audience and lift liquidity through greater exposure to institutions and index-aware funds.

The milestone reflects the company’s rapid rise since acquiring the Araxá rare earths and niobium project in Brazil’s premier mining state of Minas Gerais in 2025.

Management says the company’s market value has climbed 20-fold to almost $500 million over that period, as investors warm to Araxá’s scale and development potential.

Araxá sits next door to Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração’s (CBMM) world-leading niobium operation on the same carbonatite body, underscoring the region’s credentials and infrastructure advantages.

The company has been steadily bulking up the project’s technical foundations and last week reported a major mineral resource upgrade.

Using a two per cent total rare earth oxides (TREO) cut-off, St George reported a total mineral resource of 70.91 million tonnes grading 4.06 per cent TREO and 0.62 per cent niobium pentoxide.

It also reported a combined measured and indicated resource of 29.49 million tonnes at 4.56 per cent TREO and 0.75 per cent niobium pentoxide.

Notably, by applying a separate 0.2 per cent niobium pentoxide cut-off, St George has also reported an additional 24.56 million tonnes of niobium-bearing material that falls outside the two per cent total rare earth oxides model.

This addition has resulted in a total niobium pentoxide inventory of 95.47 million tonnes associated with the mineral resource.

St George Mining executive chairman John Prineas said: “Inclusion in the All Ords index is a landmark in St George’s corporate growth and recognises the ongoing achievements at our Araxá Project and the confidence in the Company’s strategy to potentially become a globally significant rare earths and niobium producer.”

Prineas added that Araxá’s favourable project logistics in Minas Gerais – being located in a region with a long history of commercial niobium production, access to existing infrastructure and an experienced workforce – highlight the company’s potential for an expedited pathway to production.

With index inclusion now in the bag, St George will be keen to maintain its news flow and convert its elevated profile into further on-the-ground progress at Araxá.

For a relatively small-cap company that has moved quickly in an increasingly hot critical minerals space and with its drill rods still spinning at Araxá, the next few milestones could be well worth watching.
