Si6 Metals strikes high-grade gold in outback WA

Si6 Metals has struck high-grade shallow gold out the back of Laverton in WA’s Goldfields in the maiden aircore drilling program at its Monument Gold project.

The drill bit tapped a 24m strike going 3.24 g/t gold from 44m, containing 12m grading 6.35 g/t at the Fred’s Well prospect between the Waihi and Korong resources.

Further headline strikes included an 8m run for 2.09 g/t gold from 40m and a 3m strike at 2.98 g/t from 72m. The drilling ended in mineralisation because the drill rods bogged down.

Holes were also sunk further south at the North Well prospect where a 1m strike going 9.03 g/t gold was intercepted from 4m.

North Well’s mineralisation remains open to the northwest of the 1500m strike whilst the Fred’s Well work covered 370m of its 770m strike.

The Si6 brains trust is now crunching the data to position Fred’s and North Well mineralisation and settle on further drill targets.

The latest results will no doubt buoy the explorer which snapped up the 310 square kilometre holding from DiscovEx Resources last year.

Si6 followed that up with a 154,000-ounce resource estimate in August 2021 with prospect for growth given both Korong and Waihi deposits remained open in all directions.

Laverton’s expansive historic gold district has proven a happy hunting ground for generations of prospectors chasing the precious metal and these days the area counts several world-class mines among its ranks.

The storied Sons of Gwalia firm was drawn to the region in the 1990s where it opened up the Laverton gold mine and Carosue Dam, now owned by Focus Minerals and Northern Star Resources respectively.

Focus is currently sniffing around its significant tenement holdings which include once-lucrative mothballed sites such as Laverton and the 6g/t Lancefield underground mine

Monument neighbours Dacian Gold’s two-million-ounce Mt Morgan’s Project which runs a 3Mtpa processing plant with room to expand.

The region also plays host to Gold Fields’ 8Moz Granny Smith and Wallaby mines and AngloGold Ashanti’s 9Moz gold Sunrise Dam.

Explorers including Si6 have pegged plentiful ground between the majors as they too seek a slice of the remote locale’s riches.

Si6 has plenty of work ahead of it to determine what sits below the surface of its patch, but early results indicate its worth keeping the rigs working.
