Kalgoorlie Gold Mining has completed a first-pass sampling campaign across its Pianto project near Menzies in WA’s Goldfields region that will be tested for multi-elements including gold and lithium.
The reconnaissance geochemistry program saw the company collect 315 auger samples that will test the company’s “gold-in-granite” exploration model and identify targets for follow up exploration.
The Pianto project covers one tenement across an area of around 145 square kilometres about 80km north-northwest of Kalgoorlie with little historical or modern mining activities.
In terms of the site’s geology, KalGold says Pianto represents a broad scale, dilational conceptual target prone to fluid infiltration, so the program will test for gold in hydrothermal fluids and lithium in melt fluids.
Hydrothermal fluids are hot groundwaters that circulate below the surface and play a central role in many geological processes, including the genesis of a broad variety of ore deposits and the chemical alteration of rocks and sediments. Whereas melt fluids come from water which has reacted a host rock and now contains minerals that have an electrical signature, such as lithium, leading to an enhanced conductivity in the area.
The project includes laterally extensive never-explored gold-in-granite targets over 10km, similar to the Norton Gold Fields’ Golden Cities mine to the south.
KalGold says the tenement lies on the western margin of the Gindalbie Domain and is interpreted to be mainly underlain by Archean granites, however with potential for buried greenstones in the south and west.

KalGold only listed on the ASX last November after raising $7.5 million to advance its exploration plans. Over the past three months the company has been on an exploration blitz across a number of its tenements in the WA Goldfields region.
Just last month KalGold began an RC drill campaign aimed at firming up the extent of gold mineralisation at its lead Bulong Taurus project about 35km east of Kalgoorlie. Bulong Taurus runs for 16km striking north-south and up to 9km east-west. The project is adjacent to and along strike from some successful and prominent gold explorers and miners.
The 12-hole 1750 metre RC campaign included four targeted drill holes at the project’s La Mascotte prospect to test a high-grade down-dip target.
The drilling follows a review of historical results at La Mascotte that produced results including 1m at 84.1 grams per tonne gold from 67m, 10m at 39.1 g/t gold from 128m and 2m at 12.41 g/t gold from 149m.
KalGold has been successfully expanding the size of La Mascotte this year, with the mineralisation now extending to a 700m strike length and open in every direction. In April KalGold doubled the strike length of La Mascotte to 500m on the back of rich results going 16 grams per tonne gold.
Previous assays returned results including 4m at 5.79 g/t gold from 32m, 4m going 5.47 g/t gold from 100m and 12m yielding 2.09 g/t from 4m.
With some positive results from its recent exploration in the prospective Goldfields region, the market will be interested to see what KalGold can deliver from its out-of-the-box thinking at Pianto.
